Went to Ft. Madison yesterday to look for the previously reported G.B.B.Gull by Chuck Fuller. Struck out on that one but did see one first winter Glaucous Gull at Capt. Kirk's Marina. Then went down river to Montrose and saw 12 trumpeter swans at nearby Trumpeter Marsh, 8 untagged adults and 4 juveniles. Then stopped by the river, in Montrose, where there were thousands of Canvasbacks, Common Mergansers, and Common Goldeneyes. Did pick out one Greater Scaup.
Went down river to the dam in Keokuk and found a female Long-Tailed Duck amongst the many Canvasbacks, Lesser Scaups, and Ruddy Ducks, also one Greater Scaup. Also at Keokuk, heard a Carolina Wren and seen 3 Eur.T.Sp. In Ottumwa, at the Hydro Dam, seen one 2nd winter Glaucous Gull, one A.Franklin's Gull, and a Hooded Merganser amongst about 500 Ring-Billed G. and Herring G. At Red Rock saw a 1st winter CALIFORNIA GULL at the North side of lake, mingling with R.B.Gulls and 2 J.Thayer's G. Just above the dam, seen the continuing L.B.B.Gull and one A.Franklin's Gull.
