I spent about three hours this afternoon cruising the areas where the Ames
Snowy Owl had been reported this weekend but had no luck.  As far south as
it was this morning might mean it was hiding somewhere on the research farm
I guess.  Hoping for some pure dumb luck, I then drove back roads all the
way to Bondurant but even dumb luck didn't come through.

I just heard about two mortalities from Marion County, just east of
Pleasantville.  One bird was struck by a vehicle and the other didn't
survive after it was captured.  With no snow cover one would think hunting
would be pretty easy but I guess this tells us how weak these things are by
time they get this far south.  One has to wonder about those that are even
further south of us.
