I was richly rewarded today. At 4:40 pm I spotted the snowy perched atop
the chain link fence along the Walford Rd. side of the airport. Just a
short distance from 18th St., at the spot where the road curves a bit. The
fence there is very close to the road, and I'm afraid I startled the by
slowing down. I drove on a ways, pulled a U-turn and parked. Within 5 or
10 minutes the bird flew out over the road (looking down at my vehicle)
and across a field where it perched on the ground in a field. We saw the
bird yesterday as well (first time for us) sitting on the ground about 200
yards from the road. Oh, we also noted the horned larks others have
reported in that area.
