Any species with three asterisks (***species***) would represent a first record for Iowa (UNRECORDED) and should be observed and documented very carefully. Species with two asterisks (**species**) are species that are either ACCIDENTAL, CASUAL, or a rare regular species, and should also be documented. Species with one asterisk (*species) should have some details of the observation provided. *NORTH CENTRAL:* * * WINNEBAGO COUNTY: A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at Thorpe Park on the 6th. * * * * *EAST*: JOHNSON COUNTY: COMMON REDPOLLS continue to be seen at the FW Kent Park feeders on the 4th. SCOTT COUNTY: 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at Fairmount Cemetery on the 4th. Highlights from Lock and Dam 14 on the 5th included 4 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, and GLAUCOUS GULL. A FRANKLINS GULL was seen at Credit Island on the 5th. An ICELAND GULL and a THAYERS GULL were seen at Lock and Dam 15 on the 6th. Highlights from Lock and Dam 14 on the 6th included a KUMLIENS GULL, an ICELAND GULL, a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS, and 3 THAYERS GULLS. *SOUTHEAST*: WAPELLO COUNTY: A BULLOCKS ORIOLE continues to be seen at an Ottumwa feeding station as recently as the 9th. *CENTRAL:*** * * *BOONE COUNTY:* *A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at a rural feeding station on the 4th.* * * *POLK COUNTY:* *A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at the Saylorville visitor center on the 4th. 3 were there on the 5th.* * * *A SNOWY OWL was seen southeast of the intersection of NW 30th St. and NW 150th Ave near Ankeny on the 7th.* * * * * *NORTHWEST:* * * *SAC COUNTY:* *A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen south of Grant City on the 5th.* * * *A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at a feeding station on the 7th.* * * * * * * * * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next scheduled report of the Iowa Rare Bird Alert will be for Friday, February 17, 2012 for the weekly report.
