Earlier today I was driving south on I-35 and found a Snowy Owl perched on the
southbound Elkhart exit (exit 96) sign. The bird was very pale with thin
barring on the underparts and a prominent white bib, and I’ve concluded from
photos that it is a juvenile male. The bird eventually left the sign and landed
in the field a short distance west of the interstate. It was still in the same
field an hour later.

A quick stop at Saylorville produced a count of 160+ Bald Eagles on the ice,
visible from Jester Park.
