Lena and I visited family yesterday in Iowa City and found a little time for
birding en route. We made brief stops at Otter Creek Marsh, Hawkeye WA, Amana
Lake, and the Iowa River Corridor in Iowa County. Amongst the 18 waterfowl
species were thousands of Greater White-fronted Geese, 55 Trumpeter Swans (16
at Otter Creek and 32 at Amana Lake were the most), and a male Mallard X
Northern Pintail hybrid near High Amana. The other notable sighting was a
Short-eared Owl in NW Iowa Co.

Another highlight of the trip for me was finally seeing my 150th species in
Cedar County, the last Iowa county where I had not yet reached that mark. The
milestone bird was a Canvasback.
