During a hike yesterday evening I saw two unique snow geese events. The first was a super straight skein of of 44 geese with just three on one side and then 41 on the other, including the lead goose. It looked like a check mark. The main reason for such a lopsided skein is that there are more geese on one side The second event was a more typical skein of snow geese in which they are in a rather loose and undulating formation. This group of two hundred birds was heading in a northwest direction as they came over my head. Then within in several minutes they all did a 180 (I missed the turn) and this time they came screaming by overhead in a pack, with no skein formation. I did hear a plane off in the distance, but was unsure if this caused their quick turn around. Other birds seen were Harris Sparrow (10), Song Sparrow, and Tree Sparrows (25). Strange but true.
