A friend and I went to Twin Lakes today to bird. At the North end of South Twin (along the golf course road), we saw about 15 white Geese. I'm wondering if they were Ross' Geese? They were considerably smaller than the two Canada geese standing to either side of them. I took some photos with my point-and-shoot, but the distance is such that there's very little detail in them, so they may not help much. I uploaded the photos to a Dropbox gallery accessible at https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/34122969/1/TL%20Geese?h=e65b02, just in case they're sufficient for someone else to determine if I'm right.
Sitting, they were all white, with some black on the wings when they flew. In addition to size, one of the things that led me to guess Ross' Geese is that all of them were white. When I've seen Snow Geese on S. Twin, it's always been a mixed flock of White, Dark, and Intermediate morphs. Lorinda H. M.
