This morning I found 20 species of waterfowl in the area including a small
mixed flock of Snow Geese with Greater White-fronted Geese at Dan Green Slough,
and there were four Horned Grebes including one still in basic plumage at Elk
Lake in Clay county.

I walked three good fields for Smith's Longspur but apparently Karen is not
letting them leave the Neal Smith Refuge yet. I did have a flock of nine Am
Pipits at Dewey's Pasture though.

Small numbers of Rusty Blackbirds were in a couple of locations and
Great-tailed Grackles were nosing around a couple of marshes. There were lots
of Pectoral Sandpipers at Virgin Lake mudflats along with the two yellowleg
cousins and, of course, Killdeer but no other shorebirds yet.

May the birds be resurrected for you this Easter!
