We are getting a wide variety of yard traffic this evening...Had a
couple pairs of Wood Ducks in the trees and flying by; A Female Belted
Kingfisher seemed to like perching in the yard trees for a while...that
happens every year, wonder why? The creek is about 300 yards away but
there is a backwater off of Waterman that's about a hundred yard NE of
the "yard"...maybe we're out of the wind more and it's nap-time? The
Great Blue Herons fly over the house and barns all day long but this
evening had a lot of traffic. The Waterman Creek Rookery seems to have
stabilized with about 20 pairs of birds...its very hard getting an
accurate count because they tend to not all be there at any one time but
38-40 birds has been the most often made total count. We always seem to
loose a few each spring after large storms pass through - we'll cross
our fingers for those storm systems coming our way!
Also had a female Skunk wandering around the yard for about 20 minutes -
ya, not a bird but stiff just beautiful...getting very close looks, like
from less than 3-4 feet at times when it walks past the
windows...wouldn't you know all my cameras are out in the studio right
now! Oh well...
