It has been said that those of us who live in prairie towns live in the woods, becuase of the trees we plant all around us. For the second year, I have an eastern wood peewee in my backyard right in the heart of Grinnell! He begins sawing away at his little lay from on high right about 6 a.m. these days.
Question on the song: earlier this spring we met a peewee in rural southern Wisconsin whose song was much more melodic and covered a broader range on the scale (the Wisconsin peewees song needed about an octave on the piano, whereas the Main St. peewee uses only about a musical fifth), while the yard peewees voice is also buzzier.
