Yesterday I visited a few spots in northern Iowa. The mud at Ventura Marsh is extensive, and there were still about 2000 shorebirds. Unfortunately, from the grade, the birds are about 4500 feet away according to Google maps. I walked the north edge for about 1500 feet but this only made the larger species identifiable. There were 6 Willets, and many yellowlegs, nothing larger. Also several dozen Caspian Terns coming and going and 5 Forster's Terns.

At Eagle Lake there were ten species of waterfowl, including 5 Snow Geese. No grebes and no Black Terns yet
