Yesterday, with beautiful weather forecast, and indeed it was a beautiful
day to be out amongst the birds, Carolyn Fischer and I did a Big Day in
Wright County. This county has such a wonderful area of habitat in the
Morse Lake area, and in the Iowa River that lazily meanders through the
county, and then with Big Wall Lake and other good areas that a day birding
in that county was pure pleasure.

We had 119 species with some strange misses but with some wonderful birds
seen. We had nine waterfowl species, eleven shorebird species, eight
flycatcher species, fourteen warbler species and ten sparrow species. We
couldn't find a Kestrel, Nuthatch or Hummingbird no matter how hard we
looked. We had no gulls or terns.

We saw American Bittern, Osprey, Upland Sandpiper, Bell's Vireo,
Gray-cheeked Thrush, several Scarlet Tanagers, Mourning Warbler, a field of
Henslow's Sparrows, several Orchard Orioles and a Pine Siskin for some of
the highlights.
