Yesterday afternoon, while atlasing in BBA block 471 (Knapp WMA) in Dallas
Co., I was fortunate enough to catch sight of a Yellow-breasted Chat. The
bird was skulking beneath dense undergrowth and it took some persistent
pishing to bring him out from his hiding place. It was well worth the
effort-I got a great look for a few seconds before a Gray Catbird came
along and told the Chat to scram. In case any of you might be wondering,
this sighting took place on Amarillo Ave, just north of Abilene, slightly
north of the bridge, on the west side of the road.
I've also noticed some migrating warblers and flycatchers over the past
few days. In Dallas Co., I spotted immature female Chestnut-sided
Warblers, Black-and-White Warblers, a Tennessee warbler, a Northern
Parula, an Alder Flycatcher, and an Olive-sided Flycatcher. In Polk Co. I
spotted an immature Magnolia Warbler. In Guthrie Co. I spotted a Mourning
Warbler (Nations Bridge Park).
Looking forward to atlasing in southeastern Iowa-super excited to find out
what surprises await!

Happy Birding To All!
