Yesterday, while atlasing BBA block 496 in Jasper County, I was lucky
enough to catch sight of some Bell's Vireos. I know that there were at
least two, but there may very well have been a third individual. I really
can't say for sure. A minute or so after locating the first bird, I
watched as it got into a little snit with a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. The
Vireo was perched on a twig and the RTH flew up and told it to scram. The
Vireo decided not to take this abuse and started to chase the RTH. This
didn't last very long and the Vireo went right back to its business. I
spotted the second individual less than 1/4 mile down the road in some
shrubbery. I was pishing persistently and the bird came out to
investigate. I at first thought that I was perhaps seeing the same bird
that I'd seen a few minutes earlier, but I made note of a key difference:
the second bird's wing bars were definitely more distinct than the first
bird's. A few minutes after locating the second individual, I spotted what
might have been a third, but I really don't know for sure. In case any
might be wondering, these sightings took place southwest of Colfax, on S.
28th Ave., just east of W. 124th St S.

Happy Birding To All!!
