Mark Proeschoeldt has been checking things out in the Marshalltown area
and will be our "go to guy" for field trip advice at the fall meeting.
Migrant warblers and such are on the move, yet some of our Iowa nesters
are just out of the nest. Should make for some interesting birding. Mark
and our other trip leaders (Denny Thompson, Doug Harr, Francis Moore, Carl
Kurtz) will take you to some promising spots.

Otter Creek Marsh - shore birds, sandhill cranes, herons, warblers, etc.
Bird from the long flat dikes or from the roads. Mark had 11 species of
shorebirds near the old barn the other day including red-necked phalarope
and sanderlings.

Grammer Grove - Known for warblers and hawk watching. Trails lead from
the bluffs to the river bottom at this county park.

Prairie grassland tour (Saturday only) - led by prairie experts Carl and
Linda Kurtz and Nancy Slife. Grassland birds and prairie ecology.
Marietta Sand Prairie, Carl's south prairie and home site.

Wolfe Creek - Surprising birding in this diverse Grundy County park.

Want to strike out on your own? Maps and advice available at
registration. Some nice areas very close to the meeting site. While
doing BBA work some of the best birds I found were in rather obscure
places.

On line registration closes today. See you there. Tom Schilke Waterloo
