After reviewing images from northern Minnesota in July, we decided that a
post about the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker family we spent an afternoon with
was in order. Two of the three juveniles had a few red feathers though the
bird guides say they stay brown through the winter. In the dappled light
they appeared more and less brown depending on where they were and the angle
of the light. The female was tending them even as they lapped up the tree
sap.
