That said, I hope Iowa birders take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate willingness of the birding community to financially participate in bird conservation. As a group we often get lost in the shuffle. When you buy your duck stamp to contribute to habitat acquisition and management, there is no little checkbox to indicate you support this effort as a birder. It is often said that birders are freeloaders on the backs of hunting and fishing. Many, many people participate in both activities but there is no "pay to play" provision for birding.
