I was doing a BPC today and noted a pair of Bald Eagles. Actually first I noticed one Bald Eagle flying up to a stand of trees carrying something huge behind it (turns out it was a tree limb). A second eagle was sitting in one of the trees near what looked like the skeleton of a nest.
I talked to my peers about it, and they were surprised, as was I. Is nest building common this time of year, or are they maybe doing nest maintenance? Do eagle couples even maintain their relationship post chick-rearing? Or could this be a new breeding couple that are just playing at the idea (again do eagles partner up and come together in the non-breeding time?)? --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
