At Harrier Marsh (Boone Co.) this morning, the overall bird diversity was
relatively slim, since all the wetlands have been dried up for weeks. But the
grassland sparrows made for pure excitement. I saw at least 10-12 LeConte’s
Sparrows, about 8 Nelson’s, perhaps 20+ Swamp Sparrows, one Song Sparrow, one
Grasshopper Sparrow, a couple of Vespers and perhaps a half-dozen Savannas.
Also found one Marsh Wren and a couple of wildly singing Eastern Meadowlarks.
So, it was a good day in the grasslands—there were even pheasants, too!!!
