Late afternoon yesterday, a little southwest of Lansboro on a Carroll county
road I came across what I would call  an immature Krider's Red Tailed Hawk.
This is based on viewing my Sibley's Guide. It was so pale that when I first
saw it sitting on a field gate, for one second I thought it was a Snowy Owl.
I doubled back in my car and got a closer look as it had moved to the top of a
power pole.

A short distance away I then came across a dozen Eastern Bluebirds gathering on
power lines and fences.

Sunday morning Ava and I saw two  Black capped Chickadees in our little
woodland north of our house.
Why is this so news worthy? It has been nearly four years since we've seen one
out here !

We hurried back from our walk and I loaded up the feeders for the start of bird
feeding season in hopes of keeping them around. We have several dead trees and
one Chickadee was checking out a wood pecker cavity, so maybe they will call it
home.
