Had a mixed bag in my yard this afternoon when I came home. It included
some of the first juncos in my yard so far this fall, and the other flush
of winter sparrows (including a Swamp Sparrow...which was surprising and
maybe a first in my yard). A continuing Lincoln's that sulks around my
lilac bush and asters. It also included a female Purple Finch that sat at
my feeders and basically ruled the roost, chasing off House Sparrows and
even Harris' Sparrows (when it was on the ground) and an Eastern Phoebe
which landed on some shepherd's hooks. I also had a Ruby-crowned Kinglet
digging through leaf dunes. Lastly though was a Pine Siskin that appeared
at my water basin. It wasn't too long from now last year that a Common
Redpoll showed up, and I wouldn't kick some White-winged Crossbills out of
my yard either...*crosses fingers*.
