Today I flushed a SHORT-EARED OWL while walking a field on the
east side of Greencastle Ave. The field has a farm access (north of
Swan Lake Road) which is lined with sparrow habitat. In that stretch
were 4 Harris's Sparrows. The owl was in the area of the mound of
concrete rubble atop high ground.

Farther west on Swan Lake Road I found 6 more Harris's Sparrows
along the Mallard Ponds Access. This has been a good fall for the
species.

Another winter bird was a dark morph Western Red-tailed Hawk at the
west end of Hawkeye.
