Hello, I am new to the IA Listserv, and thought I might introduce myself here in a quick post.
I have only been seriously birding since December 2011, and mainly in the state where I live (Kansas) and Missouri. I have had the fortune to be mentored by some great birders, including Matt Gearhartt, Nic Allen, Jeff Witters, Linda Williams, and Alan Branhagen, and have seen my life list skyrocket from officially 0 in December 2011, to 282 today. I would say my strengths are focused on Passerines, and are least-honed with regards to Gulls and Peeps (two groups I get to spend the least amount of time with). The reason I joined the IA Listerv is that I have relatives living along the Mn/Ia border, mainly in Lake Mills (Winnebago County IA), Emmons (Freeborn County MN), Twin Lakes (Freeborn County MN), and in the surrounding areas. This past summer (June/July 2012) I got to spend a bit of time birding mainly on the Minnesota side, and was wondering where on the Iowa side I could find some good spots to bird. I figured there must be a Listserv like this and joined as soon as I found it. I hope to help contribute any sightings I have from northern Iowa during my visits there (this coming Thanksgiving especially), and maybe get a few pointers on good spots to visit up there. Looking forward to everyone's posts and sharing some of my own, Brett Budach Manhattan, KS 66502 10/19/2012 --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
