An adult male ruby-throated hummingbird showed up in my Cedar Rapids yard on October 22nd. Despite three hard freezes in a row this hummer is still here. At first he mostly used the flowers I protected earlier in the month, but the garden is now dead so he uses the two feeders all day. I've been waking up early each morning to get warm nectar out just before he arrives at first light. Considering how unusual this sighting is in late October I'm wondering if there might be an official record for latest observed adult male ruby-throated hummingbird in Iowa.
