On my afternoon work break I went for a walk on the Sauk Rail Trail north of Breda. On my way back to my car I saw a small bird fly onto the trunk of a tree. Upon closer examination through my camera (which I happened to have along for once!) I realized that it was a red-breasted nuthatch. This is a first for me. As I was watching another one joined the first bird. Ironically, I was thinking about how the bank teller had just told me that she had her first red-breasted at her feeder in town when these birds appeared! Also, a late report of a Saw-Whet and Long-eared owls (2) spotted at Moorehead Park in Ida Grove. The Saw-Whet was a first for me. Thanks to Don for letting us know they were in the park! A very nice park if you are ever in the area!
