Keep at it long enough and you again reach the point that nothing surprises you! I've not heard or seen at White-throat in my neighborhood for several weeks. The other night my dog who rarely retrieves things outside brought me a dead White-throat.

Subject: [ia-bird] Short-eared Owl in Ankeny
It's not very often that I seem to be surprised or even baffled by things these days. That said.....
Upon returning from a trip across Ankeny, I couldn't believe my eyes when an owl dove right across my car and landed upon something underneath a street light. The owl then winged around and flew atop another street light, where I could actually view what it was. I was thinking perhaps Barred, maybe Great Horned..... but imagine my surprise when the darned thing turned out to be a Short-eared Owl!!
This was at the intersection of SW State St. and SW Magazine Rd. in Ankeny. This is slightly to the northwest of the DMACC campus and just north of the fabulous Jethro's BBQ restaurant that has just opened.
