While in the neighborhood this morning, I checked Lock and Dam 10 on the Mississippi River in Guttenberg. The river is almost completely frozen above save for a decent sized hole right above the dam. Among about 310 Canada and a handful of Cackling Geese were 2 very cold looking American White Pelicans, my first ever up here in the winter season.
I doubt the hole will last more than 2-3 days, but it appears as though a good chunk of river below the dam will be open for our CBC on the 3rd. Happy holidays!
