The ponds at Cone Marsh (Louisa County) are still frozen (no surprise) but
geese are present, hardly any ducks yet tho. About 1000 geese were there today,
mostly Canadas, but also around 100 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and a handful
of SNOW GEESE.

A lovely dark ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was working the east side of the marsh.

EURASIAN TREE SPARROWS were numerous in the area around the white house just to
the west of the SW corner of the marsh -- both sides of the road and at the
feeders.  WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were present there also.

In Lone Tree (Johnson County) mama GREAT-HORNED OWL is on her nest (she's been
on the nest since at least Jan. 13 when I first saw her there) and papa is
standing guard.

On the way  to Cone Marsh I made a circuit of the gravel roads around the Cedar
Rapids Airport (Linn County) and found my first LAPLAND LONGSPURS of the year.
