A beautifully marked red-shouldered hawk spent most of this
morning in several places in my front yard, always low in 
the trees.  None of the birds nearby paid any attention to
it, except two blue jays who harassed it for five minutes.
It's interesting that all the winter birds here know this
bird is no harm, but the yard will be bare of birds if a
sharp-shinned hawk shows up.
