I had 2-6 purple finches all winter until the warm spell in Feb.
That brought lots of purples apparently traveling north. I have counted 120
and more on the ground and on the picnic table top before something scared
them. I have kept about that same number until last Saturday's warm weather.
(the nice warm weather apparently moved them farther north).
Now I only have about a couple dozen staying with me this week.
The males are sure beautiful right now. I usually have more than a hundred
gold finches all winter; but this was a first for the huge number of purples
that
invaded me in Feb. I have fed 10 gallon of sunflower seed per day since then.
