Today Rose and I went to Otter Creek Marsh
and saw a male Purple Martin. I first spotted the
bird quite a distance away and thought ok, a FOY Tree
Swallow until the bird got closer and seen the bird
was all dark and realized it was a male Purple Martin.
Also there were 11 Trumpeter Swans and 3 Tundra Swans,
along with lots of waterfowl and a small flock of lesser
yellowlegs.
Since Owls seem to be a hot topic, I thought I would mention
this owl story. A friend of ours, Bill Sherman, who likes
to photo mainly raptors and owls, he told us he had talked
to a friend who lives in Cedar Falls Iowa who collected some
pellets in his yard from Barred Owls. The man decided to
examine the pellets and found a bird band which was traced to
a Saw-whet Owl that had been banded in Silver Islet Ontario in
2008. My dad even sent me a pic. of the band that still has
bones and matter in it!

Good Birding,
