Went to look for the egrets reported in Cedar Rapids today. I found them in Manhattan Park off Ellis Road.
I counted five great egrets near the waters edge and four more birds perched in a tree. One was a Snowy Egret, a much smaller bird with shorter neck and very dark bill. Since it was perched in a tree, the golden slippers (feet) were plainly visable. The beautiful breeding plumage of all was blowing in the wind as it was a very breezy morning. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
