I also observed 4 Wilson's Phalarope's (one in winter plumage still) and 2 that were obviously females today at Mt. Sterling, IA in Van Buren County.
There is an overabundance of water in the wetlands at Mt. Sterling now and the area had flash flooding at the end of the week. Other notable birds at Mt. Sterling: Lots and lots of gorgeous BW Teal GW Teal Both Yellowlegs Trumpeter Swans (interesting note: Saturday I watched a pair of Trumpeters at the nest site on their usual island. The female was adjusting the grassy nesting material and sitting on the nest. Today, when I went back to look for more shorebirds, there was a Canada Goose sitting on that same nest and 1 Trumpeter Swan was sitting nearby; the second swan was not seen). Lacey-Keo SP - Notable birds: I walked south of the west entrance: 3 Northern Parulas seen at parking area; perhaps a few more were among what I heard. My FOY Eastern Towhee Ruby Crowned Kinglet Saturday at Lake Sugema (Sorry for the late post): 8 Franklin's Gulls sitting on a rock jetty...some had rosy breasts/bellies. Goregous! These birds were not present today (Sunday) when I went back to look for them. Osprey Lots and lots of Am. Coots DC Cormorants Lots of Tree Swallows My FOY Barn Swallow A Singing Eastern Meadowlark Ruddy Ducks Bufflehead Yard Bird in Bentonsport, IA FOY Brown Thrasher...loved doing yard work as it serenaded me! An additional sighting relayed to me by my neighbor also saw 5 Trumpeter Swans a bit west of the bridge at Bentonsport...2 adults and 3 young.
