My mom and I spent a gorgeous morning at Walnut Woods yesterday and saw all kinds of colorful creatures. We watched a raccoon crawling down a tree, pause, and then slip into hole in the trunk. Before long, his little head poked back out to see if we were still there watching. Downy & Red-bellied WP's were everywhere and the observation post was full of wonderful action. My mom was amazed that such a great nature repost is so accessible right here in the city. Our highlights included a great blue heron, a Hairy woodpecker (one I've always struggled differentiating, but was easy for me to tell this time since it was on the same feeder as a Downy. We saw a Barred Owl. And 1 canada goose was standing in the crook of a tree, honking at us as we walked past. It was a funny picture to see him up there. We also saw 2 yellow-rumped "myrtle" warblers. A great morning.
And this morning there were 4 rose-breasted grosbeaks at my house feeder. FOY for me.
