I swung through Hawkeye WMA this evening despite the rain and wind. At the Babcock Access parking lot two Palm Warbler were active in the gravel. One came within a couple feet of my car door and seemed pretty interested in my camera. On the way out of the parking lot there were several more Palms and Yellow-rumps in the flat, muddy field to the west.
Swan Lake had Redheads, L. Scaup, a pair of Bufflehead females, Woodies, N. Shovelers among the usual suspects. Last stop was the Sand Point parking lot. I got my FOY N. WATERTHRUSH in the creek running immediately south of the parking lot. Also busy in the treetops were Nashvilles, Orange-crowned and more Palm. The weather did not seem to be bugging the birds at all. Looking forward to Saturday and meeting everyone. Brandon Caswell Cedar Rapids P.S. - On my way out of the Finkbine parking area on U of I campus I saw two Great Egrets flying over the Iowa softball field area. --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
