Nothing terribly surprising a Broad-winged Hawk in Eastern Pocahontas
County, plenty of common shorebirds. Cormorants and diving ducks.

One surprising find, and one that's slightly concerning is the finding of
a Common Loon in a very small sand pit on the north side of Hwy 15 in E.
Pocahontas County West of the the Des Moines River. The concern being
that the loon has dropped onto a body of water that is a bit too small for
it to get back off of; as well as landing on a body of water that has no
fish or possibly other food stuff. The size of the sand pit is smaller
than most farm ponds.

I've been fooled before thinking a diving bird has stranded itself only to
find it had seemingly escaped.
