On April 1st I was able to catch an injured Red-tailed Hawk near the DNR
station at Hawkeye WMA. Thank you Katie Pletcher for getting me Rick
Hollis' phone number so quickly. Thank you Rick Hollis for getting me in
touch with the couple from Iowa City who initially took the bird. That
couple got the hawk to the MacBride Raptor rehabilitation center. I
cannot remember the name of the couple, but they deserve some thanks as
well.

The staff at the rehab. center said they did not have high expectations
for the bird. It had deep puncture wounds on its breast and a broken
radius and ulna. It required around the clock care for the puncture
wounds so they would not get infected. They eventually set the wing and
it recovered. They sure do some great things at the rehab. center! A
special thanks goes out to them.

At Hawkeye WMA it bursted out of the carrying container and flew up into a
tree. I have never seen an animal so eager to be liberated! Best of luck
on its second chance at life!
