When I was in the woods at the Amana Nature Trail on Tuesday I saw and heard
several rose-bested grosbeaks. I noticed males engaged in what I thought might
be a courtship display. From a branch near the top of the tree the male would
fly up vertically and descend nearby. Or might the male(s) be attempting to
ward off competition? Any insight into such behavior?

Subject: [ia-bird] rose-breasted grosbeak

A handsome male rose-bested grosbeak has commandeered the peanut feeder in the
backyard and is keeping other birds, even a starling, at bay.
