On a fine Sunday evening, out hunting morels, many of the forest's greatest presented themselves. A pileated woodpecker was resounding mighty and flying heavy with gravity among the maples, oak, ash and elm. A scarlet tanager decked in ash and flames caught the angled evening sunbeams off of leaves busy with photosynthesis, impossibly flourescent. Just before leaving, a great crested flycatcher and swainson's thrush delighted the kids, coming within a few feet of the playground equipment.
