So my son and I are looking at his garden this evening and a Pine siskin flies down to the ground five feet from us. We continue talking and the bird flies to the feeder we are standing right next to. My son reaches over, extends his finger and the bird climbs onto his finger. I'm thinking maybe the bird hit a window or something. The siskin then flies back to the feeder. Mind you it is less than a foot away from where we are standing! My son repeats what he has just done. The bird climbs back on his finger for several seconds and then flies away to feeders half way down the block. I have never observed this kind of behavior from any wild bird before. I have heard that birds from the far north have no fear of people and allow for close interaction. I can't believe this bird survived all winter. I would've thought a cat or maybe a car would have killed it by now. Just plain odd.
