This is a belated notice. I spotted a red-headed wood pecker in late June at the corner of Friendship Street and 4th Avenue in Iowa City, Iowa. A couple days later I spotted more than one at the same place, and did again a couple times again. Then, today I found a dead one in the road in the same place. :(
