I went out to Pleasant Creek Lake beach to see if any shorebirds might be around. No such luck on the shorebirds, however, there were some birds to see around the lake and in the prairie "bowl" area just south of the lake.
Pleasant Creek Lake (area just past the dam if you were heading to the campgrounds): Osprey, diving for fish Bald Eagle, tore across the lake getting attention Forster's Tern, at the beach Spotted Sandpipers, at the beach Wood Thrush, singing along first right turn after crossing the dam/heading to campgrounds prairie "bowl" area: Sedge Wrens, several singing and easily approachable 20+ Bobolink fledglings flushed Bell's Vireo, one chatting away in some edge habitat, got very close but no visual E. Towhees, Dickcissels, and other usual suspects notable misses: Grasshopper and Henslow's Sparrow, which I was hoping to get most of all Good birding, Brandon Caswell Cedar Rapids --- Please contribute your sightings to our list; it is only as good as members make it! --- Birding channel recommendation for FRS/GMRS radio use: Primary selection; channel 5/0 , alternate selection; channel 6/0 --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
