The high water of late has washed away lots of cabins and junk. The sand bars
seem larger. The river has a more wild feel. Have seen several herds of 6 to
8 point bucks still in velvet. We had almost no deer when I was a kid. It must
have been open season as well on "chicken hawks". We also had no eagles,
Canada geese, otters, coyote, bob cat or turkey. Log jams used to be more
trash than wood. One couldn't walk the shallows barefooted.
Scarce now though are mussels, northern pike and paddle fish.
