This evening I arrived late at Otter Creek Marsh so didn't have
much time or much light. It was sunset when I discovered shorebirds
were there, including 4 Pecs with a juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER.
I've posted the best photo at IOU's "Rare Bird Photos". The location
was the barn's pool at the marsh's east side.
The identification wasn't apparent but the head markings made me
immediately suspicious. Only after I got close did the breast and
upper body colors become discernible. Oddly, a dark breast marking
was evident and I have no explanation for it. A nearby Killdeer gave
an alarm and it and the Sharp-tailed flew across the pool, leaving
the Pecs behind. I believe I heard the "weep"flight call, unlike a
Pec's. Too bad I didn't get there sooner as I was really rushed!
