Two unrelated posts regarding red tails.
First I want to thank Mike Havlik from the greater Des Moines YMCA for bringing
his red tailed hawk to my daughter's 3rd grade class in Nevada. He was awesome
with the kids and they loved the bird!!!
I also saw a red tail last week do something I hadn't seen before.
I was pulling into the Ames Lowes when a red tail sailed across Duff avenue
from the State Forestry area and lit on top of the awning over the gas pumps at
the nearby gas station. Pigeons took off en masse as it landed. I wasn't sure
if it got one or even if it actually landed there. When I came back from being
in Lowes the pigeons were still circling and the red tail was still on top of
the awning before flying off. This was 15-20 minutes after initially seeing it
so I presume he dined on the awning.
