Lanius excubitor. What a great name, perhaps for a character in Star Wars, or maybe a lower echelon Roman politician. A Northern Shrike was perched up in a brushy field this PM, on Lewis Bottoms Rd. one mile West of I-380. This is across the road from the Cedar Heights housing development. The Pleasant Creek area nearly always hosts one or more shrikes over Winter, if not at the park, then somewhere nearby. Bill Scheible Cedar Rapids
