We also saw a similar bird in the Des Moines area as we were heading east on
I235, headed towards Lake Red Rock to see the Ross's Gull. The hawk was perched
on a light pull near exit 8? No place for a quick turn around to take a closer
look.

Today while traveling home on Hwy 18 between Sanborn and Hartley an albino
Red-tailed Hawk was seen perched on a telephone pole in the same area where a
similar bird has been seen sporadically in winter over the past few years.  It
will make up the final entry on my fall field report!  Tomorrow I am headed for
West Lake Okoboji to see what water birds are still hanging around.  It sounds
like the end of this coming week could bring the chilling cold that locks up
the open water for the winter in this part of the state.  We will see.
