My wife and I just came home from a medical appointment to find a Northern
Shrike in the top of some taller Red Dogwood Shrubs at the end of our drive.
He is hunting the taller semi-grass area, which we mowed this fall. It is a
Juv/1st Year bird with yellow/brownish cast. He worked the area for about 20
minutes using the tops of Willows and Locust in my lot and my neighbor's. I
tried for a photo, but only got a fly off shot. I believe this is the same
bird that was sitting on my chain link fence looking at the bird feeders a
couple of weeks back that I just had a fleeting glimpse of. I reported that as
a Shrike SP, but later got to thinking it had a yellowish cast.
Neat yard bird.
