Birders, If your winter "finches" were thin, to nonexistent, this weekend, you were not alone. I got a message from Erik Bruhnke in Duluth, MN last night. Their CBC had NO Pine Grosbeak, Redpoll, Crossbill, or Siskin. That isreally crazy for them! The Winter Finch Forecast predicted such; there would be little southerly push due to excellent cone crops and an abundance ofseeds/fruits in deciduous trees of the North. Fortunately, Sax-Zim Bog is northerly enough to be in the normal southern end of these species' winter range - for those of you considering joining our trip up that way. Bird On... matt Matthew T.
